I had the pleasure of meeting an artist / sculptor who brought some of his pieces into the store I work. I wish to share his bio and glimpse into his artwork. Please be sure to visit David’s website at http://www.rasnickdesigns.com to view a sampling of his jewelry derived from nature.

David Rasnick has been a jewelry artist for 18 years. His studies of the ocean led to observing dolphins, whales and sharks creating the beauty and fluidity expressed in his jewelry.

Many of David’s nautical designs were created as sets, including matching rings, ear rings, pendants and bracelets or broaches. These can be dolphins, humpback whales, sharks or Orca killer whales.

Close attention is paid to detail. The goal is to make these animals as natural as possible, to appear to be moving. They are elegant and peaceful.

Each original piece was sculpted in wax by David. This prototype is then cast into silver or gold and finished by hand. Next a volcanised rubber mold is made from this original. The mold is used only to produce more wax models which are detailed, cast and hand finished. This technique is known as “lost wax casting.”

Each piece of David’s jewelry has a shiny highly polished finish that is free of any imperfections. This can only be achieved by careful time spent filing, sanding and buffing each piece at different stages.

Strict quality control is maintained as David supervises the production. Once the jewelry passes final inspection is becomes a piece of art to wear.

David Rasnick’s passion for art is his life-long study. He is an accomplished sculptor who works in clay, stone and bronze.

“In the high-tech, ever-changing world sometimes we feel distant from nature. I hope that the care and personal touch I put into creating each of my designs will in some small way put you in touch with the Earth’s oceans.”  ~David Rasnick   www.rasnickdesigns.com
