When is a sign not a sign?

Published by Tania at 1:40 am under General, Spiritual Teachings

wrong way signA few weeks ago I was following a discussion thread about synchronicities, specifically the 1111 “phenomenon.” It turned a little interesting when someone mentioned that we see what we want to see. So true! I personally believe in free will, that we make our own choices. It is our choices in life that creates our reality. Yet, we are ALL interconnected so it is the choices and energy of all life that fine-tune our experiences. When we put out a thought, we attract similar thoughts, similar energy. This is the Law of Attraction.

As I’ve written in previous posts, synchronicities are signs along our path. Lots of synchronicities equates to the notion that our life is in balance and we are “going with the flow,” we are living in harmony with our life’s path.

But, seeking signs and messages is not the same! A sign or message needs to be noticed, not sought. They occur as something out of the ordinary, causing us to take notice. Many times they will occur in 3s. They are usually felt as an “ahhhh” moment.

If I were to crawl around a field long enough looking, I would find a four-leaf clover. Not the same as sitting down and seeing one right next to you.

Or, if I were to lay down outside and watch the sky for a period of time, I’m sure that I could make out a cloud that looks like an angel or a heart. Not the same as being distracted from what you are doing, glancing up at the sky and seeing a distinct image in the clouds.

Or, what is becoming more common as people are searching more desperately for answers are those that go to multiple intuitives till they find one that answers their questions the way they want them answered.

Or, reading multiple “horoscopes” until one is found that resonates with what feels right. Not the same.

Interesting post. From what I gathered, you don’t believe that the 11:11 phenomena is a message from a higher power?
It’s true that if you search for a “sign” for long enough, you’re bound to come across it. My problem is that some people are far too naïve and interpret anything “out of the ordinary” to have a profound spiritual meaning.

Just my thoughts, great blog :)

@James… Yes, I definately believe that 11:11 is a message. Sorry it didn’t appear that way. I was trying to bring out the point that some people look for the 11:11 to show up. Thanks for the comment :)

Dear tania, as always - you write interesting posts. I think everybody is able to perceive meanings in the surrounding environment.
It is up to everybody to find the interpretation that will be his or her truth.
If we are lucky, we fill find meanings that other’s have found too and share a common knowledge.
    I’ll be back.

Wow, a woman after my own heart. I love spirituality that comes from someone with their feet firmly planted on the ground. People can get so caught up in the “woo woo” aspects of spirituality that they miss the real down to earth aspects which you are talking about here. This is VERY refreshing for me to see here. Good for you. I LIKE it!

Thanks for reminding people that awareness determines the value of synchronicity. We choose what we desire to see and experience.

To Right…Until what we discover “today” isn’t what we discovered “yesterday” or what “tomorrow” delivers us. Life is nothing other than “unpredictable”. We can only “hope” that “tomorrow” will bring something “Good” instead of something “Bad”. As I mentioned with the stars above, there is no “path” or “destiny” only motion that is either “hit” or “miss”, an accident or coincidence, or simply a collision for that day, but the trajectory remains, and will always remain - unknown. So guess, hope, whatever you want but stop dreaming or fantasizing. What will be will be without our “involvement”. I am unfortunately becoming more of a “realist” than a “purest”. Good work Tania.

It’s true that we often see what we want to see. Too often we crave for things to be different and that causes suffering. We want to witness miracles, yet often all we see is mediocrity. But if you accept and appreciate what things as they are, you do see miracles - the miracle of being at peace with yourself and the world.
