Reading the Signs
As we all know, there are different ways of viewing life and events. I’m going to share my story of what happened to my gardens and yard this last summer. By June the yard and garden were at a point where they really needed tending to. Armed with the weed wacker, I set out to conquer. I had just gotten started with my side yard and I ran out of twine. Sitting down to rewind new twine, what ran up to me? A baby rabbit. All alone. I was about to destroy his shelter, and possibly him, but was stopped just short of doing so. We just sat and watched each other for some time. Well being me, that part of the yard just had to stay “wild” for him. (I’m on the water, not out in the woods so there aren’t many places to hide). And there are some huge cats in this neighborhood. Well, to make a long story shorter, “Bunny-Bunny” followed me to the front yard flower beds. Pulling weeds, he’d be real close by. So, the flowers (actually more of a combination of herbs and wild flowers), coexisted with weeds that summer.
Bunny-Bunny was much smaller than a brick when he first appeared in my life. Funny how a baby rabbit brought so much joy with him. Watching him play, curl up when tired and sleep, and on his hind legs to grab the grass seed pods. He became tame enough that he’d pop out of the garden when I called. I guess the neighbors got over the fact that my yard became a jungle last year.
We can learn a lot by noticing signs in our lives. What did I learn from a baby rabbit?
It’s ok to be alone without fear because we are never really alone. Trust grows with love. Enjoy life. Be yourself.
I prefer working with my own perceptions of symbols but there is an excellent book by Ted Andrews, “Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small” which provides meaning to the different signs in nature. A book like this also can work hand-in-hand with your own messages, offering new or additional insight. And, reading the summary paragraph from the book to add to this post, all I can say is “hmm…, another synchronicity.”
“Rabbit can show you how to recognize the signs around you. It can help you to attune to the lunar cycle and recognize the tides of movement within your life. This in turn will enable you to become even more fertile in your life.”
Bunny-Bunny is all grown now, occasionally sits and looks in my shop window at me or sits on my shop step. A gentle reminder.

Wonderful post Tania. And I’m glad you didn’t get rid of the Bunny

What a beautiful life lesson all wrapped up in a little fur coat with a twitchy nose.
I love it and no, that is not a tear in my eye, I am allergic to bunnies dangit. *sniffles*
